A New Addition! -guest post
I’d like you to welcome today’s guest blogger- Fridge. Fridge is just new to blogging, so lets support her with lots of lovin’!
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Wow, my first attempt at blogging, how exciting! I’m only a new addition to the Carbis household too, and boy, am I getting a workout!! I’ve been filled up SO many times, and emptied as well! I am always FULL of different kinds of Tupperware, which I love. I think it adds a bit of colour to my complexion… I’m certainly enjoying being in such an open house- not like the clunky back dock at Joyce Maine. Talia says that she knew I was perfect when the men rolled me instead of carrying me. She appreciates the fact that I can look after myself like that.
Anyway, I’m really here to raise an important issue with you- appliance equality. A lot of appliances, and other kitchen products feel like there is always that one ‘special’ product that gets more TLC, more attention, and more use. Think of your poor blenders, wine coolers, mortar and pestle that never get used! The poor things have SUPPORT GROUPS to deal with the grief of not being used as often as they were designed too!! ‘Major’ appliances, like mix masters and microwaves never seem to be part of these… but they could be in your house, so watch out!!
I’ve attended a few of these meetings as a mentor because, well, I’ve had some issues with rejection in the past… and these are some ideas we thought of to help you make better use of your appliances!
1. Put us where you can see us! If you don’t have lots of bench space, that’s fine, but please try to put us at the front of the cupboard! Out of sight, out of mind!
2. Think, think about it! Why not PLAN to make a meal using one of us! If you can never think of a way to use a pestle and mortar, then why not make something like a Lamb Korma, buy the spices ‘whole’ instead of ‘ground’ and ground them up yourself! You’ll be suprised how easy it is- and how much it adds to the flavours of the dish!
3. Phone a friend. If you’ve got an appliance you don’t really use much, you could do an appliance swap! Ask a friend if they have something they don’t use much either, and swap for a week! The person who can think of the most ways to use the other’s appliance gets s home cooked dinner from the other one! This would be fun in a bigger group then 2 as well.
4. Google It. Maybe there are ways to use your appliances that you’ve just never thought of before? Have a search around the inter-webs and see what you can find!
5. Plan an outing. Never use that meat marinator? Then plan to have a bbq at the beach where you use it! Special occasions are the perfect time to use these things!
6. Give us away! If you really don’t think you’ll use us, then please put us in a new home where they will!
7. Use us unconventionally! If you really think you’ll never use your wine cooler AS a wine cooler, then use it as a vase! A container! A kids toy! A beer holder! JUST USE IT!!
Hopefully this has given you some pointed tips on how you use the products in your kitchen a little more effectively!! I will now leave you with a photo of my glorious self!
Thanks for visiting my site again! keep checking back for more updates!

Gifts, Glorious Gifts!
This is Challenge 13 of Blog This.
Do people think you’re hard to buy for or are you constantly dropping hints? What’s on your ultimate gift list? If you were to write a list of 5 things that would be on the list of perfect presents for your next birthday what would they be? Would it be a particular thing or anything from a particular store/shop? An
experience or something with pretty bows? Practical or whimsical?
I’m going to be heaps practical about this. Not cause my birthday is any time soon, but because CHRISTMAS is just a few short months away. My FAVOURITE time of year!!
1. Spotlight voucher. Yes! fabric, craft supplies, scarpbooking, knitting… it’s all there! A few hundred dollars would be perfect…
2. Embroidery threads. I know that sounds kinda boring, but didn’t you hear?! Embroidery is my new thing!! I need to stock up on some more colours…
3. Walls. Okay, so this one isn’t so practical, but I have heaps of stuff I want to put on the walls, and just no wall space really left! (P.S my newest thing I’m doing is framing small embroiderries and putting them up on the wall!
4. Photos Printed… you know I love scrapbooking? And I’m working on my travel scrapbook from Jan/Feb at the moment, but I have HUNDREDS of photos that I need printed from post-schoolies week (2004) to well, now. The earlier part of my life is already scrapbooked. So if all those could just get printed out for me, that’d be great!!
5. Suprise me! As much as I love getting what I want, I really, truly, madly, deeply (Oh GOD, Savage Garden moment…*shakes head in shame*) love SUPRISES!!! They’re my favourite, and really make an gift giving time special!!
Click the picture of Pepper (below) to see all my Christmas photos from last year (there’s not too many- I promise!)

How To Cover Up An Ugly Corkboard
Corkboards get so gosh darn ugly! Once you poked all the holes in them, and the cork starts coming apart etc… not cool. Anyway, they ARE really quite handy- so I covered one of mine up with some cheap material from IKEA! SO easy. You should have a go!
Step 1. Take your fugly corkboard, and buy some funky fabric!
Step 2: Measure out your fabric so that it’s about 2-3 inches wider on each side. Position your corkboard on top, in the middle.
Step 3: Get a hot glue gun ready (heated) with some extra glue sticks.
Step 4: Run the glue gun along the short side of the corkboard, on the wood. If you feel like the glue is drying before you’re done (this happened with mine cause my glue gun is old and not heating as hot as it use too), then do about 5cm at a time.
Step 5: Once you’ve done the short side STRETCH the fabric so that it’s pulled tight, and glue on the other short side. Turn in the corners, like you can see in the picture above (step 4), and add a bit more glue to those.
Step 6: Make sure that everything is glued on well, turn it over, and hey presto! A cute looking cork board!
You could make these to hang on the wall just as a decoration as well. OR you could just put one photo in the middle to ‘frame’ it, or make a bit of a collage that can be displayed. Lots of options- GREAT for making the craft/kids/study room/s a bit more bright and interesting!
