Bunting: Inspired by Danimezza
Sometimes I feel like I am a glutton for punishment. The busy kind of punishment. I have two weeks until life stops and we have a break from regular life for a month. Two Weeks! I can’t believe it’s only two weeks till I’m on a plane to Europe!
That means it’s also only two weeks until I walk down the isle as bridesmaid for the lovely Carmen. Between now and then my list of things to do includes:
* Dinner with Mandy & Marty
* Craft Group
* Doctors (nothing serious- just more thyroid checks- eugh)
* Eyebrow wax and a Facial @ skin
* Two days of assessment development seminars
* A moroccan night @ Naomi’s
* Package up gifts for the mini-swap I’m in and post them
* Plan savoury food for kitchen tea etc. Cook said food (started making the breadsticks today!)
* Carmen’s Kitchen Tea and Hens Night
* Our 3 year Wedding Anniversary and a dinner (nothing very extravagent- we’ll wait till Paris!)
* Dinner and dancing practice for the wedding (can’t make the wedding rehersal because of work)
* The wedding!
* A #$*t load of work. Much more then two week’s worth!
Even with my crazy long list I’m feeling confident that I the next two weeks will be enjoyable and full. I love my life when it’s crazy.
I’m adding to the list is some bunting I’ve been wanting to make ever since I saw the bunting Danielle made over at Danimezza. I thought it would be perfect timing to make the bunting now and (if the other girls like it) use it for Carmen’s hens celebrations. If they don’t like it then I will just use it forĀ other things!
Below: The fabric for the bunting cut into the triangles!

Yesterday I also spent some time with my cousin, Marcus, and his fiance, Emma. They’re getting married in April and asked me to help them with some ideas for their wedding invitations! I’m pretty excited to help them out, will be even more exciting that they’re thinking of using my scanart idea for the invitations!

Thanks for visiting my site again! keep checking back for more updates!

Fashion vs. Fabric: The struggle for your cash
It might not be your struggle, but it’s definitely mine. Which F word deserves my money more?
A little background:
I am an ‘average’ looking woman, and by that I mean that I do not fit into any one size of clothing. Not from different brands, and certainly not different parts of my body. I don’t think I know one woman who is the same size in tops as she is in pants, as she is in underware. And because of that, I am ‘average’.
Also, if you like to lable people as fruit, then I fit into one of those ‘pear’ categories. MOST of the time. Other times I am an apple. But wait, I’m a bit eggplant too… :-S I think that this is a fairly accurate desciption of my body type, but the point of all this is to say that it fluctuates. This makes shopping a bit crap for me. One day, quite a few years ago, I gave up on the whole ‘fashion’ and ‘shopping’ thing, and I have rarely bought clothes since. The exception being some basics, and the shopping trip last weekend (which I will get to in a moment). All my shopping trips are unenjoyable and I end up leaving frustrated.
Also, because of this clothes shopping ‘fast’ any piece of clothing that costs more then $20 makes me ‘um’ and ‘ah’. I would not dream of spending much more then that one one item.
Enter: last week’s shopping trip.
Luke and I were in Brisbane, and having nothing much else to do we decided to pick up the last few clothing items we needed for our holiday (I needed shoes, a jacket etc).
I went into Tree of Life (BTW: LOVE that place), and tried on two top/dress things that were quite flattering on my figure. The $45 price tag I would have to pay for each of them was not so flattering.
I had an epiphany in the clothes shop, in a ‘the straw that broke the camel’s back’ kind of way.
Maybe the reason I always felt unattractive, frumpy, and awkward was BECAUSE I spent no money on clothes. Maybe if I actually invested that bit of extra dosh into some better quality garments I would overcome these ‘meh’ feelings about my appearance.
I spent the money on getting BOTH dresses. I have worn them nearly every day since. Sometimes with tights, sometimes with stockings, sometimes with jeans. I’ve worn them with cardis, plain, and will be testing out the ol’ long sleeve shirt undernearth look tomorrow.
So now I have a dilemma.
If I think that having a budget for clothes is something I would like to invest in, then I will have to make sacrifices. I shall be frank with you all and tell you that Luke and I each get $70 a week for my personal expenses. As a general rule he saves and then spends his money on arduinos, electronics and stuff for the laser gun he’s making, and I spend my money on fabric and other crafting supplies. Oh glorious fabric!
I need to decide if I am willing to SACRIFICE the ability to buy craft items at a whimsy for being able to by clothes at a whimsy…
I will also put this into context by saying that we totally suck at saving our ‘pocket money’ for important thigns like clothes, even though we’re meant to. Luke is addicted to business shirts from Roger David (and you tought my dress was expensive!!), and will therefore make up rules about getting to go shopping sprees because of random things like dinner dates, concerts and holidays. This is to tell you that I do not have to use all of my $70 on clothes. I will get $200 twice a year or so if I want to buy clothes… but that relys on Luke wanting stuff too for it to be agreed upon!
WHAT SHOULD I DO?! FASHION OR FABRIC?
IS THERE ANYTHING INBETWEEN?!
Naturopath
I’ve been going to the naturopath for about six weeks now. I was nervous about going at first, because I had no idea what to expect, or how it would sit with my beliefs etc. I’m happy to say now though that it’s going well. It’s always interesting going to learn about how to balance all the things my body needs to function properly.
How things were before the naturopath:
The reason I first went to the naturopath was because of my thyroid. It’s enlarged, and has been for about 3 years now. This naturopath was holding a seminar on thyroids which I went along to. I liked her approach to health, and the information she gave was incredibly valuable, so I booked in for an appointment!
What I learnt:
* My thyroid doesn’t work properly. ![]()
* My adrenal glands don’t work properly. ![]()
* I was dehydrated
* I lacked magnezium
*The reason I’m so tired all the time is because of those adrenal glands- my body isn’t using up the energy I’m giving it via food and all the fat it makes just sits in my blood for a lot longer then it should, hence the lack of energy…
What’s happening now:
I’m currently taking some suppliments to increase my energy and get my motabolism kicked in.
I’m (unfortunately) not eating carbs or sugars, because we’re trying to train my body to use the energy it already has.
Positives:
* She was able to answer all my questions
* She asked me lots of questions. I felt like she had a good understanding of my lifestyle etc., and so could make informed judgements when she recommended things to me
* She’s very supportive and understanding
Minus:
* Because it’s natural health and healing it takes longer to see results then if I were taking some sort of medice.
* It’s expensive, but not as expensive as some other alternatives…
* I really REALLY like homemade bread…
Interesting:
* I had my first iridology experience
* I had my first live blood test
* Both were intersesting
