My Creative Space

Over the last few days I’ve been in this (very unusual) zone of extreme craftiness. The kind of crafty mood where I actually DO things, and not just find crafty things on the internet. :-P

The teacup quilt I’ve been working on is near completition, and the annoyance of having it sitting around unfinished finally got to me so much that I put it all together. Pepper and Luke looked on wareily as I took over the lounge room floor and ripped off big bits of masking tape and stuck pieces of fabric to the floor. This is the first quilt (I always say quilt, even though it’s a qall hanging- can someone please let me know is this is ‘allowable’ or not?) that I’ve done all the quilting myself on. The last two I did at craft group, and Nana basically did it, and I helped.

The fabric was stretched to a satisfactory level, as was the wadding, and patchwork. I wanted to some free motion quilting on it, but decided to quilt most of the straight lines first. I’m very glad I did, because I think that this has REALLY helped with not getting any puckering.

The quilting design is basically two different sections, repeated in a free, non-sensical way. The first is my scriblings of a flower, and the second is inspired from one of the fabrics in the quilt. It’s small leaves on a stem that never really ends. There are a few other bits incorporated in, like clouds in one of the embroideries, and  hearts every so often.

I’m glad the only quilts I’m doing at the moment are small, because I have zero room left on my sewing desk to fit anything bigger!

The other exciting news is that I’ve been asked to quilt a baby wall hanging for my brand new second cousin! So I’m pretty excited/scared to be doing some quilting for someone other then myself!

The Everyday Creative

Every Tuesday we’ll post a photo of the creative things we’ve done in the past week. The aim is to keep us not just inspired, but accountable to purposefully BE creative every day!

How it works:

1) Take photos during the week of your creative endeavours. You make up your own rules as to what qualifies as ‘creative’.

2) On Tuesday, write a blog post and share the photos (you might just like to show one, or all- it’s up to you).

3) Add it to the link-up below!

everyday creative 1

1: 1/1/11 Today I made up a chart to do my 12 week challenge!

2: 2/1/11 Today I started reading De Bono’s “How to have creative ideas”. This is the first activity.

3: 4/1/11 Today I bought a new sewing machine and started practicing some free motion quilting!

4: 5/1/11 More free motion quilting (it’s a bit of a theme this week!).

5: 6/1/11 Made paper garlands, which Luke filmed me do, to align with my ebook.

6: 7/1/11 More free motion quilting- this time trying to outline shapes, and also trying to quilt IN a shape.

7: 8/1/11 Today I made the video of the paper garlands. I’m really, really happy with it!

8: 10/1/11 Working on the commissioned Macbook Pro case I’ve been asked to make.

I’ve had a bit of Everyday Creative Hiatus, but I will certainly be getting into the swing of things better in 2011! I’ll post the linky every TUESDAY, and hopefully you can join in sharing some of the creative things you’ve done in the past week!

How it started: I am passionate about being creative, but found that sometimes ‘life’ gets in the way of doing creative things. So I challenged myself to do at least one creative thing every day.

There are no rules as to what qualifies as ‘creative’. Sometimes it’s a drawing, sometimes it’s how I present dinner, sometimes it’s a craft project, or a purposeful creative photo. Sometimes it’s just some creative thinking!

I take a photo (or if this isn’t possible I write it down and explain what I did), and post it a dedicated blog each day. Then, I do a summary of the week’s creative things on my personal blog.

The Everyday Creative

Even though I have been abent on the everyday creative front last week, I was still BEING creative. It’s just that I didn’t have time to post… So I’m making it up this week with two collections!

By the way, if you’re interested, the explanations of what I did each day are on my tumblr, when you click though. :-)

What creative things did you do this week?
