Christmas Tutorials
Ah, Christmas! My favourite time of year. I love the heat, eating mangos, making beautiful christmas gifts, seeing family, and all the Christmas parties! So many good things associated with Christmas time!
For me, Christmas fever has already hit, and I am busily bookmarking all the awesome Christmas crafts I want to do before December 25th! Once that date hits, Christmas is all over, so I want to make the most of it before them and get myself in the Christmas mood now!
I’m going to have a bit of extra time this year before Christmas, because Luke and I are rearranging our hours at work, and somehow I’ve ended up with the AWESOME end of the bargain. Luke needs to work longer hours to get his work done, which means I get to work SHORTER hours (so that at the end of the week it’s still costing the business the same amount). How lucky am I? Of course, this means I need to do more chores around the house etc., but I’m sure I can fit some crafting in too!

I also wanted to tell you about a Blog Hop I’ll be running over at We Heart Life in December. The idea will be that create a turorial for a Christmas decoration, card, present etc. and post it on your blog. You add it to the link (starting on the 1st of December), on the WHL page, and on the 16th we start voting for our favourites. The winner will be get an awesome prize. I just have to figure out what it will be!!

Christmas Elves
I’ve just made a whole stack more Christmas Elves for my second cousins, Sianna and Kobi, and will be making a few more for Chrissie pressents this year. These are perfect little gifts for children, or even adults! (I have them spelling out love, joy, peace and Christmas in our house!). If you don’t want to follow the instructions here, you can always order then from my etsy shop! I’ll make any word/letter combo you want. 
You’ll need:
Red felt (1 sheet is enough for 10 elves, with some extra)
Mini pompoms (5 per elf)
Letter blocks. I bought mine here, but these are expensive compared to the $2 shops that stocked them last year.
Wooden balls for heads
Hot glue gun and lots of glue sticks for them!

Steps:
1. Download the template/pattern and cut out the shapes.
2. Collect the letters that you need. Make sure you have enough! These blocks annoying come in a pack of the alphabet, and you should get 2 of each letter in the box (be aware of what letter is on the back of the letter you want… A and N were on the back of each other, so for Sianna I actually needed 2 boxes, which normally I might have only needed 1…)
3. Cut out enough arms for each of your blocks.
4. Cut out enough legs for each of your blocks.
5. Cut out enough hats for each of your blocks.
6. Turn your glue gun on, and lay out all your legs. I personally like to do all of the one part (all legs, then all arms etc), rather then elf by elf. You can do it elf by elf if you want though!
7. Put the glue onto the BOTTOM of the BLOCK, not the felt! The glue is too hard to spread on the felt. It’s really important that you work quickly to get it on, but also, remember to work SMART, as in, make sure that everything faces the right way!
8. Once your legs are all on, fold one of your arms in half. Put a strip of glue across the top of the block, and line up the middle of your arms with the middle of the block. Press down both sides. The arms should hang over to about the bottom of the block, but hey, you can make them longer or shorter depending on how you want them!
9. Cut out a circle of white felt- this is the collar. Use pinking shears to pink the edges. Glue this onto the block. Use the hot glue gun to make a circle on the bottom of the wooden ball (the hole should be on the bottom), and stick it onto the collar. I find that it’s best to be a bit generous with the glue at this point, but making sure it’s not too wide- you don’t really want to see the glue.
10. HATS! It’s best to test this before you glue, or on a spare head- because different wooden balls might be different sizes. The hats need to fit neatly around the head (not too low, or too high), with enough room to join them together.
Run the glue down the side of the hat shape (straight side), and fold it over so that the other straight side meets it.
11. Run the glue gun around the top of the elf’s head, and put the hat on. You can pretty easily add more glue here if it’s not sticking properly.
12.You can fold the hats either way- I always try to do a bit of variety, but you might like one word to all face the same way… Anyway, just put a blob of glue where you want the hat to connect (just above the bottom of the hat), and fold it over.
13. Pom Poms… I like to choose two colours for my pom poms, and do the arms one colour, and the legs and hat the other colour. I have some that are multi-coloured though, and others that are all white, or old gold etc. It’s up to you! Pom Pom’s don’t require much glue, and they can always be replaced/glued back on if they get pulled/sucked off or lost!
14. They’re finished!
