A Personalised Embroidered Wedding Gift

A Personalised Embroidered Wedding Gift

Marcus and Emma’s wedding on the weekend was beautiful. I’m still on a high from having all my Gibson cousins together, and seeing two people in love get married. Marriage is such an awesome gift, hey!?

I thought I’d take a moment to show you what I made for them as a wedding gift. I embroidered this saying, and then included their names and the date of their wedding below. What do you think?

The saying is “Home is wherever you are…”. It’s meant to be like a husband saying to a wife “Home is wherever YOU are”, but in hindsight it just reads like home is wherever you happen to be at the time… :-/

But anyway, I thought their names and the date was a nice touch. The fabric is glued around the back so this can just hang on the wall ‘as is’! We gave it to them with some of those cool thick white letters (an “M” “&” and “E” for Marcus and Emma).

handmade heart button wedding card

I also quickly put together a little card. This type of card is seriously SUPER easy and you can do it in so many shapes for so many different occasions. As this was a wedding I just used a hot glue gun to make the heart shape and stuck the red buttons in. I dusted it with glitter afterwards, which stuck to the bits of glue that were showing. Easy peasy!

I’d love to know what sort of handmade gifts you’ve made for a wedding. Let me know in the comments!

Christmas Round-Up

I know most bloggers would have done this inbetween Christmas and New Years, but being on holidays has really messed with my schedule, and we haven’t had internet, so I’ve taken a bit of an un-intentioned blogging hiatus. But I’m back, as you would have been able to see from the three posts in three days! This post will consist of a Christmas Round-up, showing some pictures from the day, and also a video I made of our craft group progression.

If you can’t view the video below, then click here to view it in Vimeo.

Craft Group: Christmas Decoration Progression from Talia Carbis on Vimeo.

I’ve started to plan our my blogging so that I don’t have long breaks between posts. The point of all this is to record life as I know it, and who I feel about things. Of course, I always love your comments- they keep me going. :-D

…CHRISTMAS… (click on the picture to make it bigger (will open in flickr)

This was the first year I wore specific Christmas outfits. I had a bit of a panic attack on Christmas Eve eve and reasliased I had nothing to wear. Christmas is the one day of the year when I know I’ll get my photo taken, so I really need to be sure I’m wearing something nice! We went to the shops and picked up some great bargins.

My Christmas Eve outfit (pictured) was some denim shorts, a cream top from Myer that was lacey over the shoulders, and red beads. I had red lippy to go with it, but this picture is during dinner, so none left!

This was my Christmas Day outfit (I’m holding a panel from Nanna which I can make into another wall hanging for Christmas 2010). New Red top/dress from Myer, with black leggings, a thing black belt, and red lippy. Thoughts? (it matched my new earings perfectly!)

Hannah’s having a look at the present I made Hayley- Luke, brother Ben’s, girlfriend. It’s one of those layered cookie ‘kits’, which I made myself. I put the recipe on tags from Shabby Princess.

Luke gave me these Ruby and Diamond earings. Funny story- we went down to the Gold Coast for Christmas Eve to do the Fabri/Carbis thing, and Luke didn’t bring me any presents. He went out on Christmas Eve, while we were down there, and bought me these (and a few other things)! It was a bit over the top, but I love them. :-D

My parents always make yummy, yummy punch with berries floating in it!
Punch.
Some of my extended family- and everyone (apart form Luke- he’s taking the picture) who was there for Christmas Day lunch, this was basically a “Rodgers” Christams. I will give you a bit of a tour of the food we had another day this week, cause it was simply amazing!

Christmas Is Changing…

Two reasons.

1. I now have to share my Christmas across two families.

2, Everyone (including myself) is older, and therefore things are not how I remember…

Christmas as a kid, and christmas as an adult are entirely different things. And this year I felt it.

We are now an extended family of people where most of us ‘share’ christmas’ with our in-laws. There aren’t games, or little kids laughing (there are no little kids), or threats of toilet dunkings…

Of course there still is adult laughing, and presents, and photos, and food. Lots of it. My family always makes a big deal of food. There is always way too much of it, but then again, there is always lots, and LOTS of us. Even with just two families (now with all our added spouses), we are a big group ranging from 11-18, and then Nanna, and other aunties and uncles and what not… we are well over 30 when all together, and for me, that’s what christmas is- lots of people, lots of decadent food, and lots of laughing, singing, and crazy things.

Luke’s christmas’ are different. One half of his extended family is all the way down in Melbourne, and the other half are Jewish, so no Christmas there. So yesterday when we spent a good three hours alone at our house playing Rock Band, just us and his little brother Jordan, it was… normal.

I’ll tell you the truth. I cried. This was not the Christmas I had been looking forward to for the last two months (at least), the one I’d prepared for, and made decorations for, and cooked for, and cleaned for, and anticipated… it was different, but stupidly, I didn’t expect the difference.

I have learnt though. Learnt to appreciate the differences, and to appreciate the fact that my idea of Christmas might actually be a bit too much for Luke some times as well… I enjoyed the day, and loved the presents- both the giving, and the receiving part of it. :-D I hope that everyone got what they wanted.

MANY photos of facebook, videos to come, and below, the link to some on my flickr, which I have just started using again, and really wish I had a pro account for, but just can not afford it…
