Does anyone have any other ideas of things I could make into stamps?! I’m making some love birds on a tree branch for Carmy’s wedding, which will be super cute…

I’m just learning when it comes to photos. But you can check out some of my more favourite photo shoots on my portfolio page.

Last night I quickly went to take photos for Tyson, one of Hayden‘s friends. He needs them for an acting portfolio. The shots had to be clear, and neat- nothing too artsy etc. I’m hoping that the ones I took did the job okay…

Like I said in the first sentence, I’m still learning about photography, and I think I learnt a thing or two from this shoot. Here’s what I learnt!

1. Natural lighting is best. I didn’t have any of that cause of the time I finished work, but I would have much preferred being outside taking these, instead of trying to find places that had enough light. Not having the natural lighting meant that when I was editing them I had to spend a lot of time getting the colour natural looking. Hopfully I pulled it off.

2. Look into the eyes. I’m not sure what other photographers think of this, but my favourite shots of Tyson were the ones where he was looking directly into the camera.

3. Backgrounds. They make a difference. Tyson preferred the brick background, so we took the majority of shots against that. When I look at the photos though, my favourite ones (as far as colouring goes) are the ones against the wood… I agree with Tyson that the brick is more interesting, and gives a nicer look to the photo, but they were harder to edit and get him to have colour in his face (the flash, again from no natural light, washed him out a bit).

4. Planning. This was incredibly spare of the moment. Hayden just messaged me during the day at work, so I had no time to think about the photos we’d be taking until I was at his house getting set up. This meant that neither of us had good ideas about what kind of photos we were taking. Hopefully Tyson got the ones he wanted. I’m doing some photos for another of Hayden’s friends, Zoey, this Saturday, for the same reason. Hopefully we can spend some time planning the types of shots she wants. We’ll be doing it in the daytime too, so look out for another blog post on her photos. Hopefully I’ll have fixed any mistakes!

I’m really quite proud of my effort, considering I’d never made an apron before! Of course, I’ve made other things, but this had to be especially neat!!

This weekend I’m planning on putting together a little tutorial for you on how to make an awesome phone sock/cover. So stay tuned for that early next week. I am SO glad it’s Friday. This week I have worked an entire extra day is overtime, but Dad (who’s also my boss) gave us all a half an hour off this afternoon, which was really nice of him. It’s a perfect way to end a Friday! Luke is tired, and asleep in bed at the moment, because it was Shavuot last night/today, which meant all night praying and studying the Torah & Acts. A big night, and I think I’ll do it as well next year. Hopefully in time I will get all the Jewish festivals under my belt. They currently come up on me unexpectedly!

I am currently extremely tempted to purchase some cute fabrics from Aunt Beas Sewing Basket, so I’m hoping off the computer now!!

Here’s a slideshow of my apron photos…

I’ve been reading a lot of various craft blogs lately, and a few people mention writing down their ideas on pieces of paper. Well, I thought I would share how I record my ideas and inspirations!

Tumblr. (If you don’t have a tumblr account, it’s REALLY easy to set up) You can put a really simple ‘Share on Tumblr’ badge in your bookmarks, and that way any time you come across a pretty thing you want to make, you can click on that, select ‘photo’ choose the picture you want to save (it loads all the photos on the webpage), and it’ll automatically put in a link to the page you’re on!

Here’s how:

Once you’ve signed up for an account, click Goodies.

The first option is to add a Bookmarklet.

You’ll need to drag that ‘Share on Tumblr’ bookmarklet into your bookmarks toolbar. It should apear then like this (second from the right):

Once it’s there, you can go to to a page that displays a tutorial, or craft you want to save, and post to your tumblr, and click on the bookmarklet. When you do this, a new window will open where you can select if you want to post a link, text, quote, picture etc. I usually choose picture so that I can easily see what crafts I have saved.

It will automatically put a link in the text to the site you’re on (if you’re linking to a particular blog post, make sure you are on the post page, not the homepage (http://taliacarbis.com/2009/04/28/tips-for-keeping-ideas-safe as opposed to http://taliacarbis.com), and you can select the photo you want to post (it will collect all the photos that are displayed on the page).

All you need to do then is select ‘creat post’ and Hey Presto! It’s done!

I find this a really effective way of keeping together all my ideas and tutorials that I find online in one place- and a great thing about it is if I loose a pattern, I can just go through my history on tumblr and find it again!

You are welcome to check our my tumblr here: http://sunshinetalia.tumblr.com and follow me. Let me know if you decide to make one too so I can follow you!

I have a few friends who are planning weddings at the moment (or at least thinking about it *coughs* carmen), and I thought of a really great idea to get ideas and inspiration.

All I did was do a quick search on del.icio.us for ‘wedding’, and I came up with hundreds of sites that other people have found useful!

As I import all my old email messages into my new email account, I am getting lots of links that I sent to luke to look at stuff before our wedding, and also lots of things mum and I sent to each other. I am currently opening them, and bookmarking them in del.icio.us is I found them useful!

Hopefull this link will work for you- it should be a search in del.icio.us for all the things tagged with weddings. If you’re not a member of del.icio.us then I would recommend that you get online and do it- it makes bookmarking so much easier!! If you do sign up, feel free to add me to your network (i’m sunshinetalia), and then I can send you anything I find directly!
