Yellow… Gold, what’s the difference?!

We don’t have a whole lot of yellow at out place… so I thought I’d show you some GOLD!

The neighbours have had to listen this baby blasting through the trees for the last week or so!

I learnt the saxaphone from year 3 to year 7, but if I think about it, that was just over a decade ago! Luke has always pretty keen for me to play msuic with him, even though I don’t know an instrument, so I finally sucummed tore-learning the saxaphone. My brother Amon has been playing it, which is good, because it’s all in working order etc.

Luke and I jammed a little bit over the weekend, and basically, I suck! I can never remember what notes come next in the little jammy things we do. I seriously just need to read the music (and remember where all the fingering is)!

One thing that’s really interesting though is how quickly it all comes back to you. I did a bit of a refresher on the weekend and I remembered pretty easily the fingering for the different notes. Don’t tell Luke, but I am reasonably excited about playing this instrument again. For me (it’s always been like this) practicing is my weakness, but maybe with Luke it will be different?

Do you have anything yellow at your place so that you can play along?

Do you play an instrument? Tell me your story!

Thanks for visiting my site again! keep checking back for more updates!

Because jquery is the same as cooking

Luke: “So, I’m pretty proud of the work I did this morning”

Talia: “Uh huh”

Luke: “The scrolling with the jquery is really hard to do”

Talia: silence

Luke: “You don’t really appreciate the work I did, do you?”

Talia: “It’s not that I don’t appreciate it, I just don’t understand how difficult it is, so it’s hard to be truely impressed.”

Luke: “I guess it’s like your cooking. I know that it tastes good, but I don’t really know how amazing it it”

Talia: “Yes! It’s exactly the same. I apprecaite how the site looks good now, but I don’t understand the technicalities of making it. That’s kind of depressing actually. Now I know how little you appreciate the skill involved in cooking some of those masterpieces…”

Luke: “Okay, well if you learn jquery, I’ll learn to cook”

Talia: “Deal”

WHAT HAVE I GOT MYSELF INTO?!

Where My Learning Journey Is At…

I had a great conversation with a few great friends on Twitter yesterday about quality, not quantity when it comes to followers.
It started with this. http://twitter.com/Sunshinetalia/status/1351072633

The conversations that sprung from that really cemented in my Ming some if the learning Ive been doing about the importance of quality networks.

I add people to my networks for the following reasons.

1. To learn from- usually other teachers and eLearning professionals who I can converse with about issues we deal with professionally.

2. To teach- generally in the same area as above.

3. Other geeks, usually female. I network with these people because we share a common interest and talk about similar things in our networks. Its a great opportunity to have fun and stay informed, as well as hear a variety of opinions- many I dont personally agree with.

4. Friends. While my current major use of social networking (except facebook) is for expressing either the teacher side of me, or the arts side of me, I recognize that social interaction with friends I see regularly is important. Social media is a great way to accomplish that, and to make collegues, friends.

So these are my qualifiers if you like. There are people I am networked with who dont fit into these categories, and thats fine. Some of them stay, some dont, as long as were mutually beneficial, then Im happy.

What are some of the reasons you add people to your social networks?

P.S. I wrote this all on my iPhone, proud of me?!
