My Latest Quilt
So I haven’t forgot about the process pledge that I took while I was making my polka dot dress (remind me to wear it next Tuesday when I go to craft so I can show Nana…). My latest projects is this Nancy Nalvorson wall panel quilt. I LOVE Nancy Halvorson designs, they really are so beautiful, but it is awfully annoying how the panels never seem to be straight.
I’ve had a bit of difficulty trying to get the borders to sit straight to the print, which has been frustrating, but I think I have it as good as it gets…
I chose the thin yellow border and the thick pink border. I’m not sure what I’ll do for the binding, possibly the same dark green from the panel. A few others ladies from craft group, including my mum and nana are doing the same panel, but different borders. I think we might have all chosen different colours. I find it really interesting to see the different borders on and how it changes the look and feel of the quilt overall.
My biggest goal at the moment is to hand quilt everything… kinda a huge task, but ultimately worth it. I’ve started going around the edges of the main shapes, and going over all the writing. I love to free-motion hand quilt the whole thing, but I’m definitely not good enough yet. Maybe one day!
So that’s where I’m up to with my quilt. Now for some photos!
Close up of some quilting…

The spotted dress
My long weekend project is this dress:

This is my first attempt at hard core dress sewing since I use to make my own clothes in high school. Needless to say that it’s quite different to the sewing I’ve been doing since then- mostly just straight simple lines on bags and quilts.
I will say though, all those quilts and bags have served their purpose, as far as sewing skills go- This weekend I’ve been sewing the straightest lines ever!
So, because this being my first piece of clothing sewn in a while, it meant that I wasn’t exactly prepared. It took me two trips to Spotlight yesterday to get together everything I needed (including a new pattern).
I started out wantng to make this coffee date dress, which I could download free from burdastyle, because there a few great tutorials to walk you through it. I even got so far as to sticky tape the whole bloody thing together before I realised there was seriously no way this was going to fit me and that I had NO WHERE NEAR enough fabric. *sigh*
Anyway, I found a new pattern to try, and a similar fabric to buy and started cutting/sewing.
During the day I got a fair bit of Stargate watched with Luke, because I spent a lot of time pinned things together and cutting them out and what not. I got NONE of the other jobs I was meant to do done. Alas. We will do them on Monday as we celebrate the birthday of our beautiful Queen.
BTW when people say we should become a republic they forget about the awesome public holidays and athletic competitions we get to win because we’re in the Commonwealth. I love the monarchy. I even followed them on twitter for a while.
Anyway, back to the task at hand. My dress.
I wanted it to have in-seam pockets in the dress (did I mention I haven’t sewed clothes in FOREVER?! Talk about jumping into the deep end…), but for the life on me can’t find a free pattern online! So I decided to make my own. I’ll post it up here once I’ve perfected it so that other people can use it too.
As I was searching for a pattern, and reading some blogs, I stumbled onto this post by Rossie on pedging to talk more about PROCESSES, and not just finished products when we blog… It’s pretty interesting idea, and one that is inspiring me to write more posts like this!

Unlocking Hayden’s Present.
For Hayden’s christmas present we gave him a virgin sim card and some credit. Because he doesn’t have a mobile yet, we unlocked my old one that I paid out to get my iPhone. Easy process- went to the Vodafone store and they told me how to get the IMEI, and then I put it into this site, and got the rest of the codes… it was hard to find though, so I’m posting it here in case you ever need to do this!!
The phone I unlocked was a Nokia E65, and here’s the process…
Nokia E65
PHONE UNLOCK PROCEDURE
PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT ANY UNLOCK PROCESS
This procedure unlocks the handset from being network restricted from only using SIM cards from Vodafone Australia. In case of difficulties, please refer to the FAQ listed below
1. Take note of the unlocking code shown above
2. Insert a Non-Vodafone Australia working SIM card.
3. Ensure the phone is charged and then switch the phone on.
4. Optional Step: If the SIM card has a PIN, enter your PIN number. (See FAQ below)
5. The phone will then display a message. The most common is “SIM card not valid”. (Different message? See FAQ below)
6. Carefully read step 6 before attempting to enter the unlock code. This step has the potential to PERMANENTLY BLOCK YOUR PHONE!
Enter into the phone #pw+ followed by the 15-digit unlocking code then +1# (Unlocking code is shown above). Do not enter the 15-digit IMEI number by mistake
To enter + press the * (star) key two times
To enter p press the * (star) key three times
To enter w press the * (star) key four times
For Example: If your 15-digit unlocking code is 123456789012345, enter the following in sequence: #pw+12456789012345+1#
(When entering the unlocking sequence it disappears? See the FAQ below)
7. Then press “OK”
8. The handset will display “SIM card restriction off” unlocked after successful entry of the unlocking code. This will be confirmed if you can make and receive calls with the Non-Vodafone Australia SIM card. (You will need reception and phone credit with the different network provider)
Please Note:
If a wrong unlocking code is entered, it will display “CODE ERROR”
If the 15-digit unlock code is incorrectly entered three (3) consecutive times the phone will be blocked and it will display “Not allowed” and is now a blocked phone. If you enter the unlocking sequence correctly after that point the phone will still not unlock due to it now being blocked.
To unblock your phone, please contact Vodafone Customer Care on 1555 (Free call from your Vodafone Mobile) or 1300 650 410 (from any other phone). The phone will continue to work with a Vodafone Australia SIM card.
FAQ:
Question: My phone asks to enter a PIN number
Answer: For SIM cards with PIN ENABLED you will be required to enter a PIN. This is not the unlocking code that has just been provided. For information concerning the PIN, PIN2, PUK and PUK2 codes for a SIM card please read the manual that came with your phone. This is not a handset unlocking difficulty.
Question: My handset displays a different message then what is shown in this procedure when I insert a Non Vodafone Australia SIM card.
Answer: The most common message the phone will display is “SIM card not valid”. Because each handset may have a different variation in software there is no standard message when a Non Vodafone Australia SIM card is inserted. If your handset displays a different message it is recommended to move onto the next step in the unlocking procedure.
List of possible messages – “Phone Restricted”, “Enter Restriction Code”, “SIM Card Invalid”, “SIM Card Not Accepted”. The handset may even then display a message ‘Undo’, select this option and move onto the next step in the procedure.
Note: Faulty SIM Cards – The handset may also display messages indicating the SIM you are using to unlock the handset is faulty, it could display “Insert SIM” “Bad Card”, “Card Error” or “Card Rejected”, confirm the SIM card is inserted correctly – Gold area downwards and the cut of the corner matches correctly. You will need a working Non Vodafone SIM card to unlock the handset, Vodafone can not assists with other networks faulty SIMs
Question: When entering the unlocking sequence it disappears?
Answer: Nokia phones have a feature where the unlock code needs to be quickly entered. If the code is entered too slowly, what you have entered will disappear and you will have to start all over again from step 3
Question: I am not currently in Australia and experiencing difficulties unlocking the phone that I purchased from a Vodafone Australia outlet
Answer: Clearly note this in the difficulties description. Vodafone Australia can only send a reply to the difficulty by email.
