June Challenge Update
ACHIEVEMENTS:
So I’m half way through the June Challenge that I started this month. I’m really, really happy with how it’s all going. We’ve only eaten out twice this month, and both times we spent our spending money- none of our savings. In totally I think we’ve spent about $20 on takeaway.
STRUGGLES:
The hardest thing for me has being going without my diet coke! And the fact that we keep seeing really nice resturaunts that we want to go to! We’re holding out till July though!
GOAL PROGRESS:
One of the goals of this challenge was to pay off our only credit card. It was $3500, and we used it to pay for our European holiday we’re going on in October. Two weeks in and we’ve paid it all off, which is FANTASTIC news for us. This has really spured us on to keep going too! We did up a budget of all the ‘extras’ we want to do on our tour, and extra expenses, as well as spending money, and have made a new goal. We want $6000 to take away with us to cover everything, and have a stack of spending money (this holday just keeps getting more and more expensive! I will let you know a bit more about what we’re doing later…).
THINGS THAT HAVE HELPED:
Because we’ve made this commitment to not eating out, we’ve decided that we don’t even have the option to eat out. Having this mindset has been EXTREMEMLY helpful, because there have been quite a few nights when I was not up to cooking dinner and it would have been easier to just eat take-out. If we don’t have time to cook dinner, then we’ve decided that we’re better off going without dinner at all. We haven’t had to do this yet, but we have had a few nights of an egg on toast, or a toasted sandwhich eaten on our way out the door!
Cup-a-soups have been our lunch time saviours. We have a bit of a stash in my draw at work, so any days when we would have normally had takeaway for lunch we have had those!

The June Challenge
Luke and I are young. We’re child, debt and semi-responsibility free (apart from the beautiful Miss P- but she has plenty of babysitters!). We both work, and if truth be told, we have plenty disposable income.
All this means that we eat out at resturaunts and lunch places. A lot. And by a lot I mean that some weeks we only eat 2 dinner meals at home, and have those two leftovers for lunch. Everything else we buy. :-S It’s a pretty sad state of affairs.
With a few hopeful things on the horizon for my 24th year (you’ll hear more about when I [finally] write up my 24 by 24), all of which costing heaps of money, we think we had better get saving!
I’m only telling you all this because it makes me feel incredibly guilty and irresponsible. Which makes me think it’s even more approporiate that we get into the June Challenge.
The June Challenge:

When: The month of June
What: No meals/snacks etc. to be eaten out. The only ‘food’ we can eat out is coffee (and only if we’re with friends), and groceries.
Why: 1. To save our dosh 2. To save our health 3. To save our fat from expanding.
As a bit of an encouragement, I request that you stand by me! Help me! Lord knows I need it. I shall post a bit of an update at the end of each week, and will try to include a menu plan as well. So your supportive comments would be most appreciated!!
Also, if you want to play along then you can add your post about it to the Linky Tool at the bottom of this post, and feel free to use the badge above if it fits your blog.
I think together we can do this thing!!

In other news, my last assignment for this round of post-graduate study is due on Monday. I have one due on Friday, and two on Sunday. I am excited to have it all finished, and have a bit of a break before I do some unofficial learning for the rest of the year. If you’re interested in what I’ve been learning at all, or the conitnuation of my learning journey, you can find me over at Teaching Talia as well. Next week I will have some more letters to put after my name, and be one step closer to those two letters that go before…
