Digital Scrapbooking

UniKids
So I’ve had my first try at ‘real’ digital scrapbooking. In looking at the page now I realise that I don’t actually have a title, so while I know that this is a page about my Uni friends, you have no idea unless I tell you here! I guess that’s a good thing about digital scrapbooking- I can edit it and print it out again!!

In the past I’ve resized photos, printed them and then scraped them (this is a story for another tim), but I hadn’t like them printed on my inkjet colour printer. I’ve been hesitant to really give digital scrapbooking a proper go because A) I like texture, and B) My attempts always come out pretty crap-tastic.

When I saw Ali Edwards’ Scrapbooking With Your Computer series come up in my reader I thought, Hmm… maybe I should give this another go whilst learning from an expert! I did this page using a tempate from the series, and I’m really happy with it. It was basic, but I learnt some neat photoshop tricks, and had a good base to start with. (You can still get the template here if you want to give it a try).

With this fully digial page I got it printed at work on the colour lazer printer, and it came out beautifully.

I guess I’m not 100% sold on the digital scrapbooking- I love the neatness, professionalism, and the cute things you can’t get in ‘real life’, but there is still the missing texture. You can’t touch it or feel those staples. Somehow it’s… fake.

What do you think?

P.S In the first image of the scrapbooking page, I’m on the left in the bottom photo. :-)

Card Scrapbook

This is what I was talking about the other day. Did you guess it right?! It’s a little ‘scrapbook’ of our Engagement cards.
IMG_4506

I got the idea from over at The Creative Place, but modified it for engagement/wedding cards instead of Christmas. I don’t know about you, but I don’t get a whole lot of cards at Christmas that I just want to keep forever… but these cards from our engagement party have special messages in them and are really quite beautiful, so I want to keep them all. :-)

The cards are in pretty good shape, considering how long they’ve been in the box, so if you’re getting engaged/married any time soon, then this is something to do to keep all those memories. And if you’ve been married for a few years like me, or even a lot more, like my Mum and Dad, then you can still make it happen! If my parents still have their cards I’ll definitely see if they want me to make one for them. :-)

I imagine it would be really nice with some photos mixed into it too… If you try this I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see some pictures of what you do. :-D

Okay, so steps on how to make it:

1. Put your cards into two piles- the ones that are already the way you want them (postcards, or cards with writing on both sides), and then ones you need to modify.

Cards that stay the sames are ones that are just one piece of card (like a postcard), have writing on both sides of the inside of the card, or sometimes the ones with the paper insert in the middle, though I did cut some of those up. Cards that you cut are ones where people have just written a message inside on one half of the card (usually the ‘back’ half).

2. Cut the cards you’re modifying in half so that the back and front are seperate. The half on the left is part A, and the half on the right is part B. Put your glue on the top side of half B and glue it to the bottom side of half A. Does that make sense? You’re basically just glueing the card together so that it doesn’t open, and the reason you cut it is so that you can see the front picture, and the message people wrote.
instructions
If your card had writing on both halves inside then it should have been in the ‘leave it’ pile.

3. Once all your cards are either glued together or left how they are get a hole punch and punch holes through all of them. I purposefully put the holes in different places so that all the cards weren’t straight at the ends. If you prefer things more clean cut you might want to measure. Do keep in mind though that you probably have a pretty huge range of card sizes.

4. Next get some ribbon and tie it through all the holes of all the cards.

With the ‘title page’ you can either just leave a pretty card at the front and add a tag, or, you can make a cover like I did. I decided to put a few bits of paper/ribbon into a laminating pouch, and laminate them! Then I cut the side with scallop scissors.

I also added a cute envelope to it, and took some dried flowes from my bouquet and laminated them into it too!

Also, you’re not limited to just the cards… exhibit A:

I had to mod the envelop a little, cause once the holes were in it the card didn’t go in all the way. I just re-folded it to suit.

Make sure you tie some bows in the ribbon to join it all together… and Wolah! You’re done!

Desert Page

Ever been to the desert? Want to scrapbook it? It can be a bit hard! I think this is a bit of a different approach to a traditional desert page….
IMG_3330

In the desert there are SO many colours you don’t realise. When the sun sets, it’s BEAUTIFUL and the sky is awesome. Not to mention colours coming off the rocks…

I called this page “Colours of the Negev”. Negev is the name of the desert.

It’s just a simple layour- photo wise, but having the various strips in the background adds a new part of the story… the colours you see!
